Exploring Carnlough

When my friend from England was visiting a wee while back we took him on a walk from the seaside village of Carnlough up the glen to the waterfalls. Walking there and back takes about 45 minutes and you get great views back over the sea.

I used to pass through the village on the way to school so it is very familiar to me. It has a great little harbour which has now been used as a location for the next series of Game of Thrones.

The coast road that runs through the village and up along the Glens of Antrim is a pretty inspirational place for me. So after I had said goodbye to my friend, dropping him off at Belfast airport, I cycled out to Middletown Coffee in Ballymena and designed a print inspired by the road. Of course I couldn’t resist putting a bike in there too! After a couple of hours of collage and painting here it is!

Location Drawing in Norway

My travels have brought me to Bergen! I came because an old art school friend and fellow folk musician is studying there so we thought that I should hop on the boat down the fjords and visit!

I took some time out of the morning to sit by the fish market looking across to an old part of the harbour called Bryggen. It has some very beautiful 18th century buildings and is definitely worth the visit if you are ever in Bergen.

If was quite cold but I managed a bit of sketching, trying out some new colour combinations with my watercolour pencils. Going to be posting a city guide to Bergen very soon on the blog so keep a look out for that!

Wintery Weather

My oldest friend has been visiting Ireland and it snowed! What more could I want! We haven’t seen each other in ages and it was really nice to spend a relaxed weekend clearing snow, going for walks and making fires in the snowy woods. We even discovered a new fire extinguishing technique involving a snow man!

When it was snowing heavily we stayed hidden indoors and kept the stove well fuelled all day with logs from the coppice. The chickens were not so sure about the snow so we cleared them some nice grass to eat. The snow has gone now but I have another blog post coming soon about the rest of our weekend adventures down by the coast road!

I am currently travelling around Europe and working from place to place so I thought I would share some pictures of my current deskspace with you. The house I am staying at is right next to some beautiful nature and I am sure you will be seeing more photos and posts over the coming month or so from the area. I am working at a big table alongside my girlfriend, who is also working from home and we are in a lovely bright room where there is plenty of space to scatter drawings and paint palettes and be untidy.

I am looking forward to be as productive as I can be this month as travelling next month to new places may mean less room to work. However, I am excited about the challenge and hopefully it will inspire me to make more print designs.

I am using a really nice watercolour called Payne’s Gray for a lot of my painting at the moment and it has really helped me to quickly get my ideas out of my sketchbook. This boat image is inspired by the many small Ferries that sail in the Sogn og Fjordane area of Norway.
